Hi Nyebit,

no, I never heard of the whole printing failing... Looks like another issue not related to the printer driver. Please check the Embarcadero's QualityCentral if there is anything related mentioned.

By the way: In the meantime I received an experimental driver from Brother fixing the issue. Thanks to Max Samson from Support dept. Brother Int’l Holland for forwarding this issue to the company headquarter in Tokyo!

Hopefully it will be released soon... I'll keep you informed!

Regards,
Arvid

Hi Alan,

sorry for the late reply. Yes, this is a never ending-story happening again and again. Sometimes "OpenSourcing" the drivers would be the best solution but it is far away from the possibilities due to many reasons like software patents existing in some countries, commercial third-party components used and last but not least the code-authentication required by Microsoft in some cases.

Brave new world!

Cheers Arvid

Companies are always willing to dismiss you as fast as they can. However, because they are the only ones that can fix issues with their software drivers we have to subject ourselves to their mercy.
Why do you have to post your issue on your blog to get Brother to pay any attention to your complaint? Open source drivers should be available as an option. After all we paid good money for their devices

On a side note, I really hate when they discontinue support for a device on the newer Windows versions. That is wrong!

Arvid,

Here in Holland we have nor the knowledge, nor the tools to be of any direct help for you. But we do have access to our software developers in Japan. Can you give us a brief insight of what actually goes wrong, so we can start the communication with them?

I just sent an email to Brother support (Netherlands) pointing to your article and the comment "Do something about it"
If we all do that they will get the point ;-)

Let their marketing know that you intend to drop support for Brother Printers due to this issue. Document the problem in your release notes, and refer all of your Brother users to Brother support.

That's about all you CAN do now...
